Week of January 28, 2021

Dear Parents,

To prepare for celebrating President’s Day we are learning about
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. This week we have completed our President’s Day paper quilts.

Our reading groups are going very well! Your child is practicing the tracking of words, use of word attack skills, and proper voice inflections when reading sentences. It is evident in class when a child is consistently reading at home with parents. Thank you! We have finished our 3rd book, I Can Learn to Read, book C. Please have your child practice reading this booklet to you.

Have a cozy weekend! God bless.

Week of January 22nd, 2013

Dear Parents,

We have a group of super spellers! Everyone scored 100% on their very first spelling test! Terrific! This kicks off our kindergarten tradition of receiving an ice cream treat when the entire class scores 100%!

This week we started our reading buddies program with Miss Schenk’s 4th grade class! The 4th graders come to our classroom, and we get to read to them. They in turn will read to us!

Please continue to review class work sent home in the Friday folder. This will help to reinforce important concepts and skills that serve as building blocks for future learning. Please note that in phonics we are now working with short and long vowels. We have learned two phonetic sound rules that cause a short vowel to change to a long vowel: silent e at the end of a word (ex - time); pair of vowels working together (ex -boat). Students should be able to identify and mark short and long vowels.

Have a lovely weekend. God bless.

Week of January 14th, 2013

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2013 new year! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas vacation! It’s hard to believe that our school year is almost half over! Our students have had a good week and have jumped right back into the swim of things here. We have begun a social studies unit on Martin Luther King, Jr. and forms of matter in science. Our definition for matter is “anything that takes up space”! We will also explore different states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas). For language arts, students have completed snowmen reading and writing projects. Please come by the classroom to see their work!

Congratulations to Anna Early and Ethan Sickles for completing their December calendar for Read Your Heart Out Book It” program. Students may turn in December’s calendar next week. Remember to be reading at least 20 minutes or more per week. A January calendar is attached to this letter.

Have a terrific weekend. God bless.
