Week of September 28, 2009

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that four weeks of school have gone by so quickly! It’s such a pleasure to work with your child.

In Social Studies we have sharpened our map skills as well as completed our “Handy Island” projects. The students did a terrific job! Next week will be our first Social Studies test. Please help your child review the vocabulary terms as well as the information in the pages we completed this week. The completed worksheet pages are in the Friday folder for review.

Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child. Our goal is to have completed the one minute tests by early November and to pass the 5 minute test of 100 multiplication facts by early January.

Room Parent anyone? If you are interested in helping out as room parent or would like to share the position with another parent, please contact me at svandercook@crystalcathedral.org . Thank you!

Have a refreshing weekend! God bless.
Mrs. Vandercook

Week of September 21, 2009

Dear Parents,

We have begun to practice for our “Wisdom” School Family presentation and our class is doing a terrific job! Please join us on Friday, November 6th at 8:45am in the Freed Theater. Also, we may need lots of help that morning getting our props (helium balloons) ready. Yes, we’re trying something new, but don’t worry. We’re not planning to lift up any buildings like Mr. Fredricksen did in the movie, “UP”!

Please read carefully our “math update” information sheet. We had a math quiz testing basic skills on Friday and we will have our first full math test based on lessons 1-10 next Wednesday, 9/23.

Have a very lovely weekend! God bless.

Math Update

Dear Parents,

We have completed lessons 1-10. Our first math test will be next week. Most of the math lessons from 1-30 should be a review of math concepts for your child. If you find your child is struggling with these concepts, please review them with your child at home. You are welcome to review lessons in our Saxon textbook. Another option is purchasing a 3rd grade math skills workbook at a teacher’s supply store.

Thank you for your commitment to your child’s growth in this area.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Vandercook

Week of September 8, 2009

Dear Parents,

This class fills the room with sunshine! They are eager to learn and are adjusting well to our third grade schedule. We have begun to explore our 4th grade math books, social studies, literature, Bible, spelling, language, and writing. Also, we made (and, of course, tasted) a solution (lemonade) as well as a mixture (goldfish and pretzels). Who knew learning could be so tasty!

Next Thursday, September 10th, is our Back to School Night. You can pick either session 1 (6:30pm – 7:15pm) or session II (7:30pm -8:20pm) to attend. I look forward to meeting the parents of these terrific 3rd graders!

Please take a moment and look at the attached page of Target’s Arts and Culture programs. Target sponsors free artistic and cultural events for families. You can search for free events in Orange County, L.A., and Long Beach. at www.target.com Check it out!
