Week of June 1, 2009

Dear Parents,

With only a few weeks left of our school year, our goal is to keep a strong academic focus in the classroom. With warmer weather and later sunsets, it can be a challenge to get our children (including my own) to bed on time and keep them well-rested. In class, our emphasis is on reinforcing good math and reading skills. Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards and encouraging your child to read each night.

Have a terrific weekend! God bless.

Love,
Mrs. Vandercook

Week of May 26, 2009

Dear Parents,

Our class did an outstanding job at our Patriotism School Family! Mrs. Barber noticed how each student sang with such sincerity. They have worked so hard in preparation of the Patriotism School Family. We are so proud of them! I will be watching my video taping over and over again (and over again). Thank you, families for bringing or representing your family’s servicemen and women today. Mr. Murillo and Mr. Page looked very sharp in their uniforms!

Have a very happy Memorial Day weekend! God bless.

Love,
Mrs. Vandercook

Dear Parents,

This week we have begun to explore the world of chemistry including matter, atoms, molecules, and the periodic table of elements. Our scientists made water molecules out of marshmallows, reenacted the three states of matter and designed an “element cookie” from the periodic table. Next week we will cause physical and chemical changes in matter (we promise not to blow anything up) and learn about (culinary) mixtures and solutions!

Next Friday is our “Patriotism” School Family. Our class has practiced

Dear Parents,

Our students had an intense week of SAT testing. They were tested on math, reading, language, spelling, social studies, and science skills. Whew! Our class persevered and kept a positive outlook this week! Yea! SAT test results will be mailed home with the last report card of the year. We will return to our normal homework schedule next week.

We are excited to have family and friends come visit our classroom at Open House Night from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 7th. Please come see all the wonderful work your child has accomplished! Don’t forget to visit the 4th grade classrooms as well as your past teachers. Of course, next year come back to see us!

Our class has earned a free game period as a reward for their diligence and enthusiasm in the classroom! Next Friday, May 8th, students may bring a board game or an electronic game to play with other students in the afternoon.
