Week of March 23, 2009

Dear Parents,

Happy first day of spring! On St. Patrick’s Day a bunch of cute, little leprechauns showed up in our class. At the end of the day we enjoyed a fun craft as well as Mrs. Sutherland’s green jello cake. Thank you, Mrs. Diaz, for the terrific flower pen in a green bucket craft! What a terrific treat!

During our last quarter of school we will have a math quiz every other week. They will be given on the weeks that we do not have regular math tests from our Saxon 4th grade math curriculum. The quizzes will be short tests that will review 3rd grade math concepts. They will serve as check points to make sure students are mastering basic 3rd grade math skills. Our hope is that these quizzes will strengthen your child’s confidence in his or her math computation abilities.

Math Update: Please review the following math concepts with your child:

Fraction of a group: What is ¼ of 60? (60 divided by 4 = 15)
Perimeter: Find the perimeter of a 5”inch square. (Add up all the sides)
Area: Find the area of a 6 inch square. (Length x width = area)
Multiplication and division facts.

Have a super weekend! God bless.

A couple of our students have reported that their peanut plants are sprouting. Madison Rauscher brought her young seedling in to share. Students are welcome to bring in their plants as they begin to germinate.

Next Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day. Students may wear free dress to school as long as they have on some article of green clothing. If students do not want to wear green they are to wear their regular school uniforms. Students who wear school uniforms will receive a green clover to wear that day.
