Hello students and parents.

I just came back from my week long training with NASA on GIS technology and software for us to use in the classroom... what does that mean? It means I'm very excited to show you how to use data available from satellites to explore the science that we are already doing here at CCHS- and do it better!

If you are an incoming freshman, this is particularly important for you, because you are going to have a really great Google Earth project built into your Biology class this year. So if you are bored over the summer, download and start playing around with Google Earth. When we get to school, we will start working on it right away!

If you are in Physics or one of my other science classes this year, we will still use GIS software and skills, don't worry! :)

Also, if you are going to be in AP Biology next year, make sure that you are doing the summer homework. You don't want to get behind!!! Email me at rcalderon@crystalcathedral.org if you have any questions.

Also, if you are an avid twitterer like me.... you can follow the latest CCHS Science news by following @CCHS_Science

See you in a few short weeks!

************************************************************
For all High School Science Classes: A few words on lab CONCLUSIONS:

The conclusion is often the most important part of any lab. It states the relevancy of an experiment as well as the accuracy of the hypothesis. It is a tool to analyze the experiment and critique mistakes and describe the importance of the concept.

For every science class, your lab grade makes up a significant part of your class grade. Labs should demonstrate knowledge of the scientific method and ALWAYS include a conclusion. Conclusions are worth at least 10 of the 50 points
on each lab. In order to earn your 10 points, I want you to look back and analyze your experimental process on a separate piece of paper, covering the following:

3 Parts of a Conclusion:

1) What did I learn? Did I accomplish my learning objective?

2) How does this lab apply to the real world? What application does it have? Why does this concept matter to science? Why does this concept matter to non-scientists?

3) Did anything go wrong or not as expected in this lab?
If SO: What went wrong? Hypothesize why it went wrong. Hypothesize how you could fix it.
If NOT: What further study could be done? What other variables or situations would you like to test?
