Pressing Forward in Faith

Weeks Thirty-Three & Thirty-Four
7-18 May 2012

Quote of the Year
"When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt." Henry J. Kaiser

Scripture of the Week:
"Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” Matthew 15:28

It seems to me that an awful lot of people are complaining these days.

The slow economic recovery, the price of gasoline, the unfair practices that organizations seem to impose upon their members - it appears that the world is in such a mess that we spend most of our time stepping around difficulties. Life gets harder and hard. We get wearier and wearier...and, it seems, poorer and poorer. The cry goes up, "Where is a Loving God during all this?"

It's a good question.

We seem to get the impression that Our Lord will somehow keep us from all the unpleasantries of life, protect us from all harm, and allow us to prosper materially during our time on Earth. We want to believe it. We need to believe it. And we feverishly search the Scriptures to find a particular passage to help us prove it..

I've looked. It isn't there.

God never promised us an Earthly picnic. He did, however, promise us that His divine plan for us will be the best one for our situation. He warned us that we would face trials; yet, He also promised us the Comforter. The point, I think, is to give us enough tension in our Earthly lives to strengthen us, enough uncertainty to help develop our faith and trust in Him. As the Bible passage above reminds us, it is our faith that He rewards -- even when we don't "see" Him by our side.

The point? Walk in faith. God's still in charge, and He loves you!

Let's learn!

Together, with you, in His service,
