"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." Aristotle

I read somewhere that a an average freight train, traveling at sixty miles per hour, takes a full two miles to stop once the engineer applies the brakes. The forward movement of all that weight propels the train forward - and smaller things simply have to get out of the way or get crushed.

A school year, unfortunately, rides on the same sort of momentum. Once we release it in September, it roars forward, inevitably picking up speed and pushing all other concerns aside as the year strains toward its conclusion in June. This undisputable fact explains why, before the Christmas Holidays even begin, I find myself seated in front of my computer reminding you of what assignments are lurking ahead once you return from your vacation.

Kind of sad, isn't it?

The close proximity of Final Examinations, I suppose, necessitates such prior warnings. Yet, you and I both need some time away. My suggestion, then, is to neglect the following information until New Year's Day, when you will probably be a little bored, anyway.

Celebrate Christ's birth and family traditions completely, this year, and let homework obligations slide for a few days. Goodness knows, that's my plan!

Merry Christmas!

Together, with you, in His service,
