I’m sure you loved the Awards Ceremony this morning as much as I did. It shows how much they really care about each other. It has been such a blessing getting to know them as individuals. They are absolutely, positively, uniquely, spectacular people. I can’t wait to see all the good things God has in store for this group. I will miss all of you parents and grandparents as well. You have done a great job as parents and I respect you for all you do to keep your children in a Christian school.

Dear Parents and Students,

Your Mission Models were AMAZING! Each and every one showed creativity, originality, and hours of labor. You ALL deserve an award. I’m glad I did NOT have to do the judging for the ribbons. It was extremely hard for the judges to decide. They even gave our two first place ribbons in our class. Every one of you will be receiving an “A” for your effort and completion of your mission model.

Our Literature unit Island of the Blue Dolphins is an exciting story filled with mystery and survival. I hope your child will share some of the details with you as we read through this book in the next few weeks.

Thank you for sending in canned foods for the OC Rescue Mission. We brought them to School Family and enjoyed a power point presentation which reviewed all the different class mission projects. There was a photo of our class with our piggy banks that we made to collect our coins for Alexis our World Vision sponsored child. It was touching seeing all the great mission work our children have done this year at school. Thank you for helping teach about mission work through giving, by your example, and your support. Even though our children are small they have done mighty work for the Lord through our charity work. Awesome!

Our very own 4th grade Hockey Team play in the Anaheim Ducks 4th grade street hockey competition last Saturday at the Pond. They played five exciting matches and I cheered them on with all their parents, Miss Schenk, and Mrs. Schenk. Players from our class included Evan “Almighty”, Ryan “the Lion”, Audrey “Fearless Wolf”, “Ali Cat” Miller, and last but not least “Crusader” Caleb. GO CCA Tigers!

We will have an All School Chapel in the Cathedral on Monday, May 17th at 8:40a.m. All are welcome to join us.

*** “Free Dress” tickets are on sale now!*** We are raising money to support Yesenia to help pay her tuition at Grace Christian School in Mexico. Miss Cindy is in charge of selling tickets for $5.00 to all students and teachers for “Tee shirt & Jeans Day.” If you make a $5.00 donation from now through May 20th you may wear a tee shirt and jeans on Friday, May 21st. I will be making my own donation and enjoying a jeans day at school. You must have a ticket to participate.

Science – We are very fortunate to have Mr. Bizon volunteer to come in to our classroom and give an Electricity and Magnetism demo on Friday, May 21st from 10:00 – 11:45. He works for the Edison Company and has done this many years for our 4th graders since his daughter Stephanie (currently a CCHS sophomore) was in fourth grade. We are so excited to participate in this fun filled, educational, and hands-on demonstration. If you would like to come in to assist with the hands on stations please let me know so I can plan accordingly. PIP hours will be available if you still need them but you must let me know in advance. Thank you.

Does your birthday fall in the summer before school starts? We will be celebrating all summer birthdays on Friday, May 28th with our first annual school wide “Summer Birthday” free dress day and celebration. If your birthday falls in the summer or your birthday fell this year before the “birthday free dress” was put into effect you may celebrate by wearing free dress to school on Friday, May 28th. If your child has a summer birthday and you would like to send in a birthday treat to celebrate the day with our class please let me know. Thank you. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The pre-test will be on Tuesday and Test on Wednesday, May 19th covering lessons 91-95. It is a good idea to review math with your child. We covered finding the greatest common factors of two numbers (GCF) and using it to reduce fractions, recognizing and naming geometric solids, finding equivalent fractions by dividing by 1, using letters to name angles, and on Monday we will be converting units of liquid measure. Thank you for your help and support with review and practice at home.
Love and Peace,

Dear Parents and Students,

The class did very well while I was gone. I am very proud of them for having such good behavior for our substitute teacher Mrs. Shin . She did a great job with the class and I appreciate her caring and hard work. Chicago was great! The Academy Choir did an awesome job receiving the highest possible scores at the choir festival they participated in. It was an exciting trip.

Well, we have about four and a half weeks left in 4th grade. We have a very contagious and timely case of “spring fever” going around 4th grade. I know that spring brings many after school sports, Angel games, and great weather for playing outdoors…I have to admit I’m feeling it myself. I plan to finish this year strong academically. I thank you for your support, encouragement, and loving parental reminders to your child at home to keep up the effort and good work at school. I can’t believe the year will be coming to an end. I am happy for summer but sad having to say good bye. This is truly a very special class. It was especially nice to see all of you at Open House. I hope you liked all the hard work your child had on display. As always the Mission Models drew large crowds into our classroom to see the beautiful missions. Thank you to everyone for turning your missions in on time. Enjoy your day off after Open House!

We are still going strong in our daily studies. The children have requested that we celebrate the completion of our 100th Math Lesson. I think that is a great idea. I will let the class vote on how they want to do this. It will be coming soon as we will be doing lessons 91-94 this coming week.

We are beginning our next Literature unit by reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. It is another exciting story that the students always love. I hope they will share some of the details with you as we read through this book in the next few weeks.

We will be having a “Canned Food” collection on this Friday, May 14th as part of our school mission projects. The cans will be donated to the children’s home in Mexico where Yesenia lives. The high schoolers will deliver the goods on their last mission trip to the orphanage/ school. The students will bring their canned good donations to School Family on Friday morning. You may send it in anytime this week and we will keep in until Friday.

I can’t wail to see our first ever CCA 4th grade Hockey Team play in the Anaheim Ducks 4th grade street hockey competition this Saturday, May 8th at the Ducks parking lot starting at with the 8:30a.m.opening ceremonies. I hope you will join me in cheering on our team Saturday morning. Players from our class include Evan “Almighty”, Ryan “the Lion”, “Fearless Wolf” Audrey, and “Ali Cat” Miller. GO CCA Tigers!

We will have an All School Chapel in the Cathedral on Monday, May 17th at 8:40a.m. All are welcome to join us. We will also be raising money to support Yesenia and her orphanage in Mexico by offering a “Tee shirt & Jeans Day.” If you make a $5.00 donation from now through May 20th you may wear a tee shirt and jeans on Friday, May 21st. I will be making my own donation and enjoying a jeans day at school.

Science – We are very fortunate to have Mr. Bizon volunteer to come in to our classroom and give an Electricity and Magnetism demo on Friday, May 21st.

We will be celebrating all summer birthdays on Friday, May 28th with our first annual school wide “Summer Birthday” free dress day.

Classroom Awards Day will be Friday, June 4th immediately following a short worship chapel in the gym. Please plan to attend this very special awards presentation. I will present each student one special school pin which represents their individual effort, talent, and hard work they have shown this year. We should be done around 10am. If you would like to bring in a snack to share with our families please let me know. Thank you.

Thursday, May 10th is the Last Day of School. School will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up at the time. There will be NO DAY CARE offered that day. The PTT hosts an end of the year party for the school. Information will be coming home soon with all the details. It usually includes food, big bouncy slides, DJ and dancing. We shall see what they have in store for this year.

Bible – The students will be choosing one of the Gospels in the New Testament to read and write a report. They will have time to do this in class but may need to keep up at home if they fall behind. I will be sending home details next week.

Spelling – We will have a spelling test next week on List 31 with the test on Thursday, May 13th. .

Thank you and God bless,
Mrs. Hoops

Dear Parents and Students,

We had a wonderful week working on and finishing up our Number the Stars project for Open House. We also completed an “All About Me” poster. We played Bible Baseball on Unit 8 to finish up our unit. Each student contributed to his or her team as they looked up answers from the Bible and study guide. They impressed Mrs. Barber as she watched our friendly competition. Great Job 4th graders! We also enjoyed the American Boy Choir concert that we attended in the Cathedral this past Monday. They were amazing!

We began our Stanford 10 Achievement Tests Thursday and Friday. We will finish up Monday and Tuesday. Remember to get a good nights sleep on Sunday and Monday so you will be well rested and at the top of your game for the tests. Thank you for your help. Thank you for being on time and here each day of testing!

We welcomed Peter into our class this week. He is a smart and sweet boy with a fun sense of humor. All the students were very helpful friends this week. We are glad Peter is in our class and hope he had a good week.

There will be no spelling test next week due to SAT testing or the first week in May due to the short week and Open House.

Bible Memory Verse - We will continue to memorize Psalm 51:10-12. We will take the test on this May 13th . If you memorize one verse per week you will be set. This will also be the date of our next spelling test
Psalm 51:10-12
10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Memorize by 4/30

11	Do not cast me from your presence
Or take your Holy Spirit from me. Memorize by 5/6

12	Restore to me the joy of your salvation
And grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.” Memorize by 5/13

Keep working on those Mission Models! They are due in the classroom the morning of Thursday, May 5th . ***They must be taken home after 7:30PM on the night of open house. We do not have school Friday, May 7th. Over the weekend other groups use our classroom. Therefore, I cannot guarantee the safety of your mission project over the weekend. Please come by after 7:30PM and take home your mission model. We want everyone to have a chance to come by the classroom and see your beautiful missions on Open House so please don’t take your mission earlier than 7:30PM. Thank you! I can’t wait to see them all.

I am sending home some tests for you to look at including spelling, math, History, and Literature. If your child earned a 70% or below please review concepts, redo any incorrect answers, sign the tests and return them to me on Monday. Thank you! Especially check out the math test concepts as they are becoming increasingly more difficult and typically need review and practice at home. I was impressed with the critical thinking answers on the history test. They did an especially good job expressing their thoughts and knowledge in their written answers. Way to go!

Please keep everyone going on the Choir Tour to Chicago in your prayers. We will be back to school on Tuesday, May 4th…There are 22 students plus parent chaperones going…including Madison Rauscher, Dominic, Ali, and Mrs. Hoops. While I am in the windy city, Mrs. Shin will be our substitute teacher. I will be leaving lesson plans for the days I am gone and class will continue as usual. I want to thank all my students, in advance, for being on their best behavior while I am away. I can’t wait to hear all the great compliments Mrs. Shin leaves me about my wonderful class.

Many blessings,

Dear Parents and Students,

April showers greeted us this Monday back from Easter break. The rain didn’t last giving way to the warm sunshine. I hope you had a restful and blessed Easter holiday. We were busy this week studying about King David in the Bible and we finished reading Number The Stars in literature. Ask your child to tell you something about each of these. They have learned a lot during these units. Both areas of study have been very exciting with war, resistance, Nazi’s, soldiers, injuries, and even death. We have read about bravery, forgiveness, and friendship.

Thank you for your help and support at home. We have had very tired children coming to school especially on Mondays. Please help them by making sure they get to bed early on Sunday nights as well as during the school week (especially for testing coming up). Thanks again!

We will be going to an all school concert in the Cathedral on Monday at 10:00a.m. The Boy Choir will be visiting our state and doing a concert at church on Sunday and for our school on Monday. The boys are being housed this weekend with some of our CCA families. Justin and Dominic will be having boys staying in their homes. You are welcome to join us Monday morning for the concert.

SAT Testing Dates for our 4th grade class begin this week. We will begin Thursday, April 22 – Tuesday, April 27th. Please DO NOT be ABSENT OR LATE on these days. Once testing has begun in the morning a student may not enter the classroom and must sit in the office until the test is over. They will then have to make-up the test during another class period which may not be the best test taking situation. Please remember to get a good night sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a healthy snack for snack time, and please do not stress out about these tests. We are beginning testing two days earlier than some other classes due to the fact that several of our classmates will be traveling to Chicago with the CCA Choir for their bi-annual choir trip.

I will be going to Chicago with the choir as a Staff Chaperone with Mrs. Aspling. I want to make sure our testing is done before the trip. It has been arranged for Mrs. Shin to be our Substitute teacher the days that I am gone. I will be leaving complete lesson plans and our classroom studies will continue as usual. She is a qualified teacher and is also a new parent at our school. She is Hannah Shin’s Aunt. Her son Peter will be a new 4th grader in our class starting Monday, April 19th. Please help me in welcoming her and Peter to our class and school.

We will be wrapping up Unit 8 King David in Bible with another game of Bible Baseball. I am sending home a study guide with all you need to know for the test and baseball game. The game will be held Thursday and Friday, April 22 and 23, 2010 with the test on Friday, 4/23.

There will be NO SPELLING list for the next two weeks due to SAT testing. We will be however, memorizing Psalm 51:10-12 from our Bible unit. The test will be taken 4/23 on the Bible test.
“Create in me a pure heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me from your presence
Or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation
And grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.”
Psalm 51:10-12

The unit test for the Literature unit on Number The Stars will be on Tuesday, April 20th. If your child has missed reading any chapters in the book they should do so over the weekend to be prepared for the comprehension test. They may also read it for fun. They really enjoyed reading this story in groups and together as a class. We will also be finishing up a written project that goes with this unit this week.

We took the Math pretest on Thursday covering lessons 81-85. I have given the students back their corrected pretest to redo any incorrectly answered questions. Please help them study any areas they may have questions in over the weekend so they are confident and ready for the test on Monday, April 19th. I will be sending them home with their math books over the weekend.

We will be finishing up the study of Matter in science this week and will do the chapter review. We will take the test Monday, April 26th.

The next two weeks we will take a little more time to working on our CA Notebooks in class. Please look ahead and continue to prepare for and do the upcoming pages. Remember that your CA Notebook must be at school each day. Please do not leave it at home. The notebook should be completed up through page 41 by this coming Friday, April 23rd. Remember to work ahead on pages 57-73 at home anytime. The entire book must be completed and turned in to me by Tuesday, May 4th. Good luck and have fun completing this CA history keepsake.

Time is ticking….I’m sure you are working hard on your Mission Model Projects. They are due at the beginning of school on Wednesday, May 5th. We cannot accept projects before this date. Thank you.

God bless you,
Mrs. Hoops

Dear Parents and Students,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Jesus has risen! Happy Easter! Happy vacation. I hope you all enjoy your time off school. We had a fun Resurrection Party with an egg hunt, lil’ bunny gift exchange, Easter snack, a couple crafts, egg coloring, and much laughter. Thank you for sending in the eggs for the hunt. I hope you like the cross craft that will be coming home to decorate your table. It symbolizes the crucifixion and resurrection and reminds us of God’s one perfect gift to us.

The “Three Trees” performance on Wednesday night went perfectly. I really enjoyed watching them and hearing their sweet voices sing for the Lord. Miss Sandy Teske did a great job directing them and making their headpieces. I just love this class and I’m starting to miss them already. Summer and 5th grade is just around the corner.

California Notebooks AND Mission Project– this vacation is a great time to work ahead on your CA notebooks AND your mission project. CA Notebooks should be completed up to page 25. Please work ahead if possible on pages 67, 69, 71, 73. You are always able to work ahead on any other pages you wish. This is your workbook and you are free to be as creative as you wish. Remember that your mission model is due May 5, the day before Open House. It must be delivered on THAT day, no earlier and no later.	Our next spelling list is List 30. The test will be on Thursday, April 15th. We will also be having a math test on Friday, April 16th on lessons 81-85. Please practice doing two digit division and three digit multiplication problems. There are some students struggling with these concepts.

We will be having SAT testing Thursday, April 22nd – Tuesday, April 27th. I wanted to give you a heads up so you could plan not to miss school on those days. Please plan any Doctor appointment etc. for other days. I will keep you updated as the time gets closer. Thank you for helping to plan ahead for stress free testing.

We will take our history test chapter 8 on Monday, April 12th when we get back. History books are coming home to review over the holiday.
Dear Parents and Students,

Wow! What a wonderful job our children did on Friday at School Family. They performed so beautifully the Three Trees musical for family and friends. I loved it and I’m sure you did too. They will perform it one more time on Wednesday, March 31st at 7pm in the Freed Theater. Please invite all your family and friends to come and enjoy this meaningful production. They have worked very hard and would love to have the theater filled so they can share the love of our Lord.

Thank you to all who dressed up and brought in foods to share with the class for International Day. We shared wonderful foods from around the world. Here is a list of foods we shared…Kathy egg rolls, Caleb dumplings, Zoie sushi & crackers, Madisyn chips & 7 layer dip, and Ali juice. I surprised them by making French Crepes in class with Nutella and powdered sugar! We had a nice assembly with our 4th graders singing in English and German. Everyone received a passport and collected stamps inside as we experienced artifacts, pictures, and food from volunteers at the booths from many countries. They were very impressive. We took a class picture in front of the booth representing Haiti, Cuba, and Egypt. Thank you PTT and parents for doing such a great job this year!

Our class Easter Party will be Thursday, April 1st from 10:20 – 11:45. The class would like to have an egg hunt and secret bunny exchange. We will play some games and watch an Easter movie. In order for this to happen we need your help. Please send in 6 (or more) filled plastic eggs for the hunt by Wednesday. You could fill them with candy, toy trinkets, coins, resurrection items, or anything fun that will fit inside the egg. The secret bunny exchange is like “secret Santa” but should be appropriate for both a boy or a girl. Please include something representing the resurrection of Jesus Christ in your little gift. Please bring your $3.00 (limit) gift wrapped with YOUR name written on it…(for example from Mrs. Hoops) to school by Wednesday, 3/31 for the gift exchange at the party. I will bring in a treat for the class. Feel free to send in a treat if you would like. Thank you!

We finished up our Bible unit on Saul’s Reign by playing “Bible Baseball”. This fun review was a hit and we didn’t have one strike out. The students enjoyed this friendly competition with a tied score of Judges 22 vs. Kings 22. It was very exciting!

We began working on our CA Notebooks in class this week. I am still looking for 5 students to return their signed yellow slip so that they may take their books home to catch up on any unfinished pages. Please sign and return the slip if you still need to do so. Thank you. Enjoy looking over what they have done and ask them what they learned so far or to tell you about their completed pages. Please help them find pictures of scenery from around our state. You can find them on the internet and print it out, from a travel agency, magazines, or post cards…Please look ahead to other pages they may need help on. Students may draw and color pictures, or cut and paste. Have fun and do a great job. This Notebook will be a keepsake when they are through.
CA Notebook***Next week we will be completing pages 15,17,19,21,23,25 (67,69,71,73 are pages to work ahead on anytime you can).

The 3rd quarter ended Friday, March 26, 2010. Report cards will be mailed out the end of the week. Thank you to all who did and turned in the extra credit work. I’m proud of your effort.

    Make his praise glorious!
Psalm 66: 1 & 2.

Research the topic using our history book and internet sources…to gather information and pictures about your topic. Include the name of your topic, pictures, descriptions and explanations of how your topic changed lives in California and the US during that time, the history, why it was important, tell us a few interesting facts about your topic. The writing should be done on the computer and attached to your board along with your pictures, title, and memorabilia... Creatively make your display and bring it to class. Orally present your display to the class. Share your new knowledge. This shouldn’t take more than a couple hours to put it all together.
Create excitement for the reader. The second (long) paragraph is the Plot summary. If they didn’t finish these paragraphs in class they should finish over the weekend and bring it to school on Monday. We gave many examples of an introduction and talked about the plot summary should tell what happened in the story including an important event from the beginning, the middle, and the end of the story. They are bringing this home in their backpacks. Have them read it to you. They came up with some cleaver introductions.

Dear Parents and Students,

We had an awesome trip to Sacramento! THANK YOU to our fabulous moms and dads who chaperoned this fun and exciting day. Everything went very smoothly. We toured the capitol building and met with Senator Lou Correa who presented each child with a certificate, shook their hands, and took photos. We sat in on the floor of the Senate and witnessed them voting on a bill. We attended class in the one room school house and toured the Railroad Museum in Old Town. We had free time to explore and shop in Old Town Sacramento which traditionally includes a trip to Candy Heaven. Then we explored Sutter’s fort and the cherry on top was the trip to Home Town Buffet where we ate dinner. The students were courteous, kind, and very well behaved. We were complimented on their behavior and knowledge. Go CCA! Go 4th Grade! I am very proud of the way they represented our school and enjoyed the day. Thank you for allowing them to have this experience. They will be talking about it for a long time.

“Coffee Can” Biography Book Reports are due on Monday. Remember to finish the scroll in your best cursive writing. The scroll should be the final copy meaning free from errors. Have fun and be as creative as you want when you decorate the outside of your can and adding the five objects inside your can. If by chance you haven’t been able to find a coffee can, you may use or make a container the size and shape of a LARGE coffee can. Students should be ready to give a two minute oral presentation about their person some time next week. Try to have fun with this project.

The 4th Grade mini musical called “The Three Trees” will be on Friday, March 26th during School Family Chapel AND Wednesday, March 31st in the Freed Theater at 7:00 p.m. Please plan ahead for these performances. Please read all the details in the note being sent home today attached to the hard copy of this Friday Letter. They need to wear specific clothes (detailed in the note) and have to be there at specific times. Their participation is mandatory and is their drama grade. Please plan to invite all your family and friends to the evening performance. You are always welcome to come to the Friday Chapel performance as well.

We will have our Spelling Test on list 25 next Thursday, March 11th.

Science test on rocks and minerals will be on Monday, March 8th. I gave each student a study guide and science book to study for the test over the weekend.

The history test will be on Friday, March 12th on the Gold Rush. Please study the vocabulary and questions at the end of each lesson. Students will also be bringing home their history books to study over the weekend.

The Bible memory verse for the next two weeks is Psalm 27: 13-14. The memory test on Psalm 27:13 will be Thursday, 3/11. Memory test on Psalm 27:14 will be March 18th. See the verses below…

“I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.”
Psalm 27:13
“Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and take heart
And wait for the Lord.”
Psalm 27:14

Our school event for Jump Rope for Heart will be on Wednesday, March 17th from 1:10-1:55 p.m. I sent home letters explaining the event to help the American Heart Association. Every child participates and enjoys the fun physical fitness activities exercising our hearts. You are invited to collect a donation from yourself and / or family and friends if you feel led to support this cause.

Progress reports should be coming home soon for a grade of C or below. If your child has a 0 in something that means it was never turned in. They can still make up and turn in those assignments before report cards come out to bring up their grade

International Day is coming on Wednesday, March 24th. Plan ahead to wear an outfit representing your family heritage or you may dress a culture of interest to you. We will be celebrating by bringing in a cultural food to share with our class. Start planning ahead for this fun multicultural day at school. Also, the International Dinner will be Friday, March 26th. Save the date and join us for a fun filled evening that starts with a family dinner followed by some multicultural entertainment There is still time to sign up to bring your favorite cultural dish to share that night.

Have a wonderfully restful weekend. We have many sick children in our class; please keep them and all of our health in your prayers.

Wow, another month with these beautiful children learning, growing, and developing their many talents. The students did an excellent job on our school family presentation of Honesty.
