We will be having our event on Wednesday 3/17 at various times during the day. If you have been collecting donations for the Heart Association be sure to bring them in Wednesday.

8th Grade Science
There have been some revisions in the schedule as I have become aware of a large number of assignments due this week in other classes as well. There will be a work period during class time on Tuesday 3/16. Our chapter test will not be until next week. The materials project will be due Friday rather than Thursday.
Due Dates:
Thursday 3/18 - worksheets 4-3 and 4-4
Friday 3/19 - Materials project
Tuesday 3/23 - chapter 4 test

7th Grade Science
We continue our work with cells. The cell models have jelled and I hope the structures names and functions have jelled in the students' brains as well. The "eggsperiment" projects are due on Thursday 3/18.
Due Dates:
Tuesday 3/16 - 1-2 worksheet
Wednesday 3/17 - 1-3 worksheet
Bone of the Week - fibula - the smaller bone of the lower leg

4th Grade - PE Project choices are listed below. Choose one project, complete it, and turn it in by Thursday March 18, 2010
25 Mile Club
Complete one 25 Mile Club chart. Each 15 minutes of non-stop aerobic exercise counts as one mile. To fill in a box write the date and what activity was done. Each box must be individually filled out, no repeat signs. Sports team practice or games may count toward the 25 Mile Club if the activity is continuous and aerobic. Generally there are portions of a practice that are business and instruction as well as rest/drink breaks. Count only the portions that are non-stop for 15 minutes (or more) and increase the heart rate. You must turn in the record of your work on an official 25 Mile Club form and it must be signed by your parent.
Olympics Report
The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver, Canada from February 12 – 28, 2010. You may do a one page written report either about the Vancouver games in general or about one particular event. A report about the Vancouver games should include information about preparing for the games; the logo and mascots; the torch relay; the number of events, countries, and athletes; cultural events associated with the Olympics; and some highlights of the games. If you choose one event include information about the number of teams and participants; basic rules of the event; the venue (the place the competition is held); notable participants; highlights of the event; and final results. TV, newspapers, and many internet sites will be good sources of information for completing your report. Feel free to add additional pages with charts and pictures. Remember, the written report itself should be in your own words (cutting and pasting is to be reserved for pictures and charts). Check out the website, vancouver2010.com for information.
Exercise Report
Write a one page report about exercising including the following: Why you should exercise, how exercise is good for the body, and how to prevent injury as you exercise.

Thursday 12/17 is my night to oversee selling snacks at the Glory tables. I need volunteers. The start time is 4:30 and I estimate it will be 4 hours of PIP service. Any parent of a science student who helps that evening will earn 3 "Beakers" for their child. A Beaker can be used to skip a homework assignment or for credit equaling a question on a test. If all three Beakers are used on the same test the increase in score would be approximately 10%. Sign up online.
