8th Grade Science
We are studying the elements and the periodic table. The chapter 3 test will be this Friday 11/6. The element poster is due next Thursday 11/12. Monday 11/9 will be a work period for the posters. Be sure to bring your materials to class so you can use the allotted time. We will be building molecule models in class next Friday 11/13. We need bags of gum drops for the project. Students may earn a "Beaker" for bringing in a large bag of gum drops.

7th Grade 1st Quarter Extra Credit Assignment
Due Tuesday October 27, 2009
1. Create a data table and write down everything you eat for 3 days. Include the amount of each item eaten. You may use the Food Record form on page 16 of the Exercise Your Options booklet.
2. Calculate the number of servings in each of the food groups you ate each day.
3. Create a graph comparing the number of servings you ate of each food group each day to the recommended number of servings per day. Each food group should be shown in a different color.
4. Write a one paragraph summary on steps you could take to eat in a more healthful manner.
8th Grade Science
We will be making marshmallow nuclei on Wednesday. The first 2 students to bring in a full sealed bag of white mini marshmallows and the first 2 to bring in a full bag of colored mini marshmallows will earn a "Beaker." Only 1 beaker per student.

Your "States of Matter" projects are due on Monday October 12. The packet that had been sent home at the beginning of chapter 2 had the wrong study guide included. As a review instead please do the chapter review in the book on pages 72 - 73. Skip #19 and choose only 2 from the Thinking Critically section - #24 - 28. The test will be on Wedneday.

A Story of Changes in Matter
You will be visually portraying the three states of matter through either a cartoon or a skit. You may work alone or with a group of no more then three people
1. Describe in writing the particles in each of the three states of matter. If working in a group each person must do his/her own unique written description.
2. Create a storyboard. This will be the plan for your skit or cartoon.
3. For a skit: You may use props if not too large or complicated.
For a cartoon: Each frame of the cartoon must be on a separate sheet of paper at least 8.5 x 11”. It must be in paint, marker, or dark ink so it can be seen from the back of the class.
4. Time Line:
Written description due Wednesday October 7th by the end of class.
Story board due Thursday October 8th by the end of class
Final presentation Monday October 12th
