As we enter the new year with renewed hope and rejuvenation, it is important to remember that finals are right around the corner. For many of you, the semester project has come been finalized and the the class final is the last major hurdle. All of my final study guides are on each class's homepage on my website. Each is in .doc (word format) for easy download and typing definitions. My recommendation for all students is to study in groups for each final and divide up the workload for definitions and short answers. My recommendation, however, comes with a word of CAUTION: work only with those you trust to do their part correctly & accurately. If you don't feel like there are people you trust to work with, it is best to write to study by yourself.

How time flies!! We've entered the holiday season and the feelings are mixed. Some of us are excited because we've hit our stride and things are looking good. Others of us are scared because that means we only have 9 weeks left to bring up our grades. Whatever camp you're in, there is good news: projects are coming due soon. Although that may not seem like good news, it is.

Projects are coming due this nine weeks, which will pretty much seal the deal for those whose grades are high and benefit those whose grades could use a little help. Work hard on these and you'll all be just fine! If you need/want a little more help, check out my website!

Congratulations on making it to the second month of school. After checking progress reports and perhaps not seeing the grade you (or your parents) are 100% happy with, this EXTRA CREDIT is for you. As October is famous for Halloween, your extra credit is simple. Carve a pumpkin with your favorite historical figure. If you're artistically challenged (like me), carve the history class out in the pumpkin. Display the pumpkin outside and take a picture of it. Extra EXTRA credit will be given if you take a picture of 3 or more trick or treaters (non family)next to the pumpkin on Halloween. Post the picture online under the Extra Credit tab. The best pumpkin carving wins (having trick or treaters will help) Extra Extra Extra credit (bonus to be discussed in class).

April brings us to the end of the 3rd quarter. Some of us have done well during the longest stretch of the year. Others, however, need to step up our game and make a good push for the finish line. To help with that, you can take a look at my calendars to see what's coming up for the month or go to your class website and see what fun filled goodies await. Be sure to check out this month's extra credit as well. I'm excited to see everyone step up their creativity!!

Welcome to March, the start of spring (woohoo!!!) I hope that students will continue to check my page for up-to-date assignments and extra credit.

This winter I created a website for each of my classes and the clubs I'm involved in. There is also a blog set up for each class that they can talk to one another about homework, quizzes, and tests. Blogs are used in college classes to connect with other students, so I want students to become familiar with them. Here's the website.

Mr. Folk's Website

EXTRA CREDIT!!!!! Look at your homepage and bring me a list the people who are on it to class. Do NOT post answers on your pages blog. Doing so will cancel the extra credit for everyone in your class.

For extra credit this month, we're going "old school." Bring a Valentine's Day card for everyone in your class on Friday Feb. 13. On the back of each card, write a specific month day and year. Each date must be different. Each of your classmates will look up the date, write down what occured then, and bring both the card and the info to me. For each 25% of the class that brings it in, you'll receive 2 free points on your next quiz. If everyone turns it in, you'll get an extra 2 points.

Wrap up your book as a Christmas Present and give it to an unsuspecting family member or friend and watch as there eyes light up with...confusion as they see a history book lay before them. What a memorable way to impart a little history to loved one. :)
