Congratulations to Anya for this week's award on LOVE!

Froggy is glad to be back and will spend the weekend with Anya, and then catch up with Emmy during the week!

I've started a Boxcar Mania in our class! We read the first Boxcar book as a class and just finished it up today. we'll be working on a small project to wrap that up next week. Many students checked out more Boxcar Children books from the library this week and have chosen them for the next book reports. Providing them a little experience in reading a novel in class was one goal, but getting them hooked on Boxcar Children books was just a hope. Boy did that work!
Parents please request to see the information sheet for our next book report. Students have them and we've gone over the directions.

We've been discussing economics this week in S.S. Feel free to explain further about how you and your family makes and uses money. We will learn more about how people make decisions about how to use their money coming up.

Science is Out of This World! We've had a scavenger hunt to find solar system facts, finished up our cool planet reports in the form of a friendly letter, we'll gaze at some stars this week, and we will be heading to the planetarium this Thursday! Permission slips are due by Monday and we are still waiting for more. Get those in please!

Valentine's Day is always a special day here at CCA. Besides the multitude of balloons, there's usually time for a little treat and passing out Valentine cards. Please use the reminder list in Friday Folders to include every student IF passing Valentine's out at all. We'll enjoy whatever treats you'd like to share. Please only bring those that are easy to share and for all 14 students. Bring a water bottle for a drink during the party.

The invention reports and science letters look great up on our walls! Good work!

MATH TEST MONDAY!

Field Trip Thursday! Please be in full Friday Uniform and no need to bring anything along.

Keep in mind:
No school Monday, 2/20
OUR school family on March 2

Happy weekend!
Reminder- NEXT week, we already have another day off! Jan. 16 is a holiday.

Congratulations to Mason for this week's award- loyalty!

Up for this week:

Spelling list 13 with tests on usual days.

We'll be working on our landmark project in class this week for S.S..- remember to do research at home if needed.

Timeline projects are due January 12- that's THURSDAY! Please continue to spend time on these projects and we'll keep the homework load lighter again this week.

In science we've begun looking at our Earth as a planet with special features, seen the moon change and why, and this week we'll explore why we have seasons.

We've got a few tests on the schedule for next week. Please keep practicing concepts at home. Multiplication tables, spelling words, writing skills, reading and comprehension, science discovery and discussion, learning about history, using our language correctly, math in the real world, and of course Bible stories and lessons all need to be learned at home as well as school. Show your students that these are worthwhile and exciting by learning with your kids, and providing lots of extra learning experiences for them.

Special request (again). We are still going through pencils at record speed. PLEASE continue providing your students with their own supplies as needed. They may need replacements of some items they started out with. Pencils and erasers being the most important!

Your Official Christmas Break- Bust Those Boredom Blues List

During your two weeks off, 3rd grade students should be considering the following list of things to do. Many of you may be very busy out of town, but you will have to plan how these items will get done before, during, or after break.

Reading Logs:
You have two reading logs on one sheet in your Friday folder. They are pre-dated for you. Please remember to keep reading often- every day would be great! Reading is important. Please keep it up even on vacation.
Due Tuesday, Jan. 3

Timeline Project:
You have been given an information sheet on the expectations for your timeline project. Remember it is due about a week after we return-
due Jan. 12. If you have time, it would be wise to begin this project while you have fewer responsibilities and more time to focus on one thing.

Math:
Keep your brainpower! Complete your math packet carefully. Don’t worry about trying to do it all in one sitting. Break it up and do one page a day.
This is a way to keep math practice in your routine and help you to remember things we have learned.
Math packet due Tuesday, Jan. 3

Journal:
You have 5 journals to complete during the break. Please spread these out as well. Choose 5 days to complete one journal. Your topics are already written in for you. Make sure they are complete as well as the picture. Then also be sure all other entries are complete as well.
Your completed December journal is due Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Spelling list 11 has also been handed out so you can get a head start on studying for the week we return!

Enjoy your holiday and have a VERY Merry CHRISTmas! I am so happy to have this class this year! You are an amazing bunch!

Return to school Tuesday, Jan. 3

Merry Christmas and a VERY Happy New Year with special 2012 blessings to you all!

Congratulations to Kaitlyn for the award this week on generosity!

Please remember the Christmas program this Monday 12/12.
This week we will be wrapping some things up before the holiday break. Please continue to push through this last leg of the race before Christmas break!

Monday we will continue as usual until after lunch. The afternoon is set for our Christmas program rehearsal.
Parents, remember that the Christmas program is mandatory and part of the music grade. Students need to be dressed in their Christmas best by 6:45 unless they are involved in something else that has an earlier call time.

We will be doing spelling list 15 with testing days as usual. Spelling test on Friday will be basically first thing.

S.S.-We will be wrapping up the chapter and preparing for the chapter test on Thursday. Please focus on this area this week.

Math- Further practice for the most part. No test this week.

Writing- another area to focus on this week. We've spent time preparing ideas to write a story. Students have begun writing and this week will continue them, edit, revise, and add to them. Then we'll recopy. Finished stories are due on Thursday. Students falling behind on any area may need to spend time on this at home in order to finish by Thursday. Friday will be considered late and will have points taken off. If stories are not turned in before break, serious point consequences will occur.
Therefore, please make the S.S. test and finishing the story PRIORITY this week.

We'll begin a new short story to work on for this one week in reading. Please have library books at school as we will try to go to the library again this week.

Please begin preparing for the Timeline Project. Information sheets went home Friday after our discussion in class this past week. Due date is January 12.

Further in the week we will enjoy some Christmas fun. Please remember to sign up for a brunch food item on our sign-up sheet. Our brunch will be on Friday. Please bring your food item with you first thing in the morning. Our party will begin soon after we do the spelling test.
School is out at NOON and there is NO daycare. Please plan for an early pick-up!

Thank you wonderful families! Please let me know you've viewed this letter!

Congratulations to Kealey for the award of Faith this week AND to our entire class for doing a great job this morning in school family! They did their best and should be proud.

Up for this week:

No school Friday, so we'll also have no regular spelling list this week. Study ahead for list 9 if you like.

Math news- our last test was a smashing success! 11 A's! These kids are doing a great job in math. Please keep practicing as new concepts will be coming and more challenges ahead. Practice 6's for this week- Tuesday.

Penmanship- We're chugging along! We're trying to break bad habits so parents help keep an eye on penmanship practice at home. Not only is it important TO practice, but to be practicing CORRECTLY. Some students are not always forming the letters right so we need to correct this before it really becomes an unbreakable habit.

Bible- Unit 2 test Wednesday. We've been discovering the different things Bibles have and how to make good use of them. Please use study guides to study daily. * questions only.
Our next verse will be assigned on Thursday. Look ahead at Psalm 100; 2& 4-5

Writing- We'll discover a fun way to write that connects writing and S.S. this week. Watch for it on our outside wall soon.

Reading- We've taken a short break from our regular anthology book to connect a story, some new reading skill practice, and S.S. I am reading The Sign of the Beaver to the students, and though it is somewhat more challenging, they are getting the idea of life's difficulties in the mid 1700's and will soon be hearing about Native American way of life. Feel free to ask students for updates on the story. It only helps their comprehension to retell to you!

Science- We'll be starting a new chapter and discussing where organisms live. (Looking at ecosystems)
TASK: Please observe a small area outside near your home. Just about the size no bigger than your desk. Take note of ALL the living things inside that area. Please do this before Wed. 11/9

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY for Veteran's Day. Enjoy!

As you can EVERY week, send me an email, note or signed copy of the Friday letter by MONDAY, and your child will receive a reward.

Thank you- I am so THANKFUL for all of you this year!
We had a great Rob Biagi concert this morning! There was no award therefore, so Froggy will be spending the weekend with me and my family- surprise! I wonder what he'd like for dinner...

Parents, You certainly came through for us with the party treats! We had plenty! Thank you so much for contributing.

Did your student report to you about our video using the projector? We've had some technical issues this year, but we are trying hard to resolve them and use the laptops in our classroom. Stay tuned for more technology!

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth"
We'll be finishing up this 2nd unit too, so a unit 2 test will be on its way.

Science- Yes, we DID change the science test date to one week later- it will now be on Thurs. 11/3 This will give us more time to do some activities relating to animals and the endangered species.

Math- We're doing well! Our next math test will be Wed. 11/2

Reading- PLEASE keep up with reading logs at home. This is a very important practice for your child and I've only required 4 of 7 days each week- they should be reading every day. Please help your student to read for enjoyment at home often AND to fill out the log. We'll be starting a new story this week. A bit of a surprise- something a little different :)

Reminder- Journals are DUE Monday. So finishing up over the weekend and being ready for Monday's journal is important.

THIS FRIDAY- is OUR school family! Join us in the theater at 8:45 parents. Students please be ON TIME as I will pick up students a little early in the a.m.

We'll do sharing time again this Friday:
Olivia, Phillip, Gio, and Emmy please bring an item to share with us on Friday. Remember to help us learn about you, a place, and/or an experience if possible.

Thank you!,
