- MORE ABOUT MISSIONS
One
of the last things Christ did before returning to heaven was to
show what it meant to be “salt” by serving others.
Jesus served people through compassionate acts of care and kindness.
And He served His disciples when He washed their feet. Then He
said, “Let this be an example to you. Go and do likewise.”
"At the Crystal Cathedral, we'll become the 'salt' by serving on servant-leadership teams. And as a first step in becoming a 'salt shaker' for Christ, I'm asking and encouraging all of you who belong to the local congregation to sign up and be a part of a 'Houses of Hope' mission team. There are so many ways for you to serve and the response has already been amazing!" - Sheila Schuller Coleman
What are “Houses of Hope”?
We are prefabricating three loft houses on the Crystal Cathedral Plaza, and then transporting and assembling them - in a day! - in Mexico. With four windows, a lockable door, and a second story attic loft for sleeping, each 12-foot-by-12-foot loft house gives a family basic protection and shelter from the elements. The kit-houses consist of prefabricated panels made from simple building materials, widely available at most home improvement warehouses: 2x4s, 2x6s, plywood, and tarpaper roofing. The houses have raised wooden floors covered with linoleum and built on concrete piers. For less than $3,000 each, these homes will exhibit a visibletestimony of the love of Jesus to the new homeowners and their entire community.
Why are we building these houses?
There are families down in Ensenada, Mexico, living in shacks made of scavenged wood with no running water or electricity. So, we have committed, through the Hands of Mercy ministry, to build three loft houses. Once we prefabricate each house, we’ll take them down to Mexico, and erect them. We’ll paint the houses, make curtains, and put together little care packages for these families.
How do I get involved?
So many of you have already come forward to say, yes I want to
do this, so we’re forming all kinds of teams - sign
up now! We also need donations for the materials, totaling
$3,000 for each house costs. Wow. Imagine a house that only costs
$3000!
