Crystal Cathedral Board votes to select the Diocese of Orange County as the buyer for its campus
November 17, 2011
While we continue to believe and pray for the miracle that will deliver the Crystal Cathedral campus our board has voted to select the Diocese of Orange County as the buyer for our campus.
Senior Pastor, Dr. Sheila Schuller Coleman stated, "Escrow takes time to close. Nothing is final until the escrow closes. Although this decision breaks my heart, I still believe there is still plenty of time for God to do His miracle. It is His church. It is His fight. We know who wins!"
The Catholic plan allows Crystal Cathedral ministry full and exclusive use of the Crystal Cathedral and the majority of the property for three years. The Family Life Center will be available for 18 months giving us plenty of time to find temporary solutions to house the programs for children and youth. If escrow actually closes all areas of the ministry will continue three years from now from another location: all current worship services, Hour of Power, the schools, the youth, Monday Meals, Hope Center, etc.
Dr. Coleman emphasized, "If it's God's will for us to move, we believe it will be where He needs us most. It does not mean that our ministry will be diminished. Crystal Cathedral church is not a building. A church is comprised of people who are dedicated to practicing through words and works, "God loves you and so do we!" And so we will continue to deliver the positive message of Jesus Christ internationally and to the local community: every Sunday through the Hour of Power and our weekly worship services, every Monday through feeding the homeless at Monday Meals. We will continue to help the homeless in our community find jobs, we will continue to build houses for homeless in Mexico, we will continue to partner with OC Rescue Mission, LA rescue Mission, Fred Jordan Mission, and Dream Center, LA.”
In accordance with its bylaws, the Board of Directors of Crystal Cathedral Ministries has voted to name the Diocese of Orange County, through the Roman Catholic Bishop’s Office ("RCBO"), as the selected preferred buyer for its Garden Grove, California campus. The Board also expressed its sincere appreciation to Chapman University for the several proposed alternative offers, some of which were more monetarily advantageous but would, in the end, convert the campus to an educational institution rather than keeping it a place of worship, in perpetuity.
The selection of the Diocese follows many gracious and accommodating terms provided by the Diocese that exhibit sensitivity to our history and display a spirit of honor for the significant contributions of the Crystal Cathedral Congregation, the Hour of Power Viewers, our Global Supporters and its Founders, Dr. Robert H. and Arvella Schuller.
