n 1980 the Crystal Cathedral was dedicated. In 1984 the spectacular passion play, The Glory of Easter premiered inside the all-glass church.
950,000 people have witnessed the Glory of Easter live in the Crystal Cathedral, and millions nationwide have seen the production through special televised events.
The Cathedral seats 2736 for church services and 2506 when holding the enormous Glory of Easter set.
Preparation for this production takes approximately one month of, including installing lights, angel track, and rigging, as well as set construction.
The Glory of Easter boasts, one of the largest sets in the world consisting of 5 miles of steel undergriding, spanning 124 feet across and 80 feet high.
Six angels fly throughout the production. Some fly as high as 80 feet and can travel as fast as 20 miles per hour.
The Soundtracks was recorded by London Symphony and Seattle Symphony Orchestras and eight trumpeters and four drummers play from the balconies live every show.
Animals play an integral part in the production. Donkey, five horses, water buffalo, baby camel, lama, piglets, miniature burrow, peacocks, sheep, and goats all grace the glorious stage.
The Cathedral’s pipe organ is world renowned for its size and quality, and stands among the five largest pipe organs in the world.
More the 200 volunteers dedicate over 160 hours each to the Glory of Easter as both cast members and volunteer ushers.
