Love wins out...

By Dr. Lawrence Wilkes

"May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God." -Ephesians 3:19

There's a difference between a person who has a smile on his face and one that has a frown. Would you follow the one with the angry face? Not as likely. Would you follow the one with the smile and an inviting personality? I think so.

I believe, when Jesus walked this earth, he met people with a smile because he's God in the flesh and God is love. God loves us with a divine love that will not quit. When he looks at us as lost sheep, he sees us as redeemable, as loved ones precious in his sight. Therefore, I think there was always a welcoming smile on his face that was warm and inviting to all he met.

Yet, it's more than just appearance. His words, as he spoke, were astounding, delivered as no man had before. Jesus spoke the scriptures with authority because he knew the Heavenly Father in a personal way. Many of the rabbis in those days had more of a condemning, legalist message based only on law. By contrast, Jesus came as the redeemer, as the one sent by the Father through his heart of love. He spoke to the people in much love, and they were drawn to him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am drawn to you because of your loving ways. Let your ways be my ways. Let your love be the love I show to everyone I meet. Amen.

Reflection: Can you imagine the smile of Jesus? Can you feel his love just thinking about it?
