God's Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong

By Sheila Schuller Coleman

"….In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years." – Isaiah 63:9

Devotional: God Lifts Us Up Where We Belong

I love to bake! I love to take a recipe and follow it—mixing butter, sugar, imported Dutch cocoa powder, eggs, vanilla, sour cream, and flour to make red velvet cupcakes or cookies. But these ingredients by themselves are not enough; they will only produce flat dough. I have to add a leavening ingredient, such as baking soda or baking powder, to make them rise. My favorite red velvet cupcake recipe calls for a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. I let the mixture bubble and then add it to the batter before putting them in the oven to bake. When the heat of the oven hits the batter with leavening ingredients, gases are emitted from the chemical reaction and the cupcakes rise…and rise…and rise—as do the cookies. My boys love the cupcakes and cookies frosted warm from the oven, the frosting dripping down the sides. Yum!

When we are in the heat of life—when the tough times come and life gets too warm for our comfort—let God's love be the love-'ning ingredient that lifts you up…up…up…to where he wants you to be. Trouble never leaves us where it finds us. It can be a leave-'ning ingredient if we trust God to leave us better rather than bitter.

How do we do that? We thank God for the trouble. We thank him for the challenge. We thank him for the worrisome trial. We love him and let his love lift us up and help us grow!

Be creative today. Write a recipe for getting through tough times. What ingredients do you need to add to yield a positive outcome?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for using the troubles I've faced as a catalyst for change. Your love and mercy have repeatedly lifted me up and carried me through the dark times in life.

The love and mercy of God repeatedly lifted me up and carried me throught the dark times in life, when I especially, turned to Him and cried out in honesty. No making up the situation but knowing that He is aware of all things around me because He cares and sees and knows and holds power above all. This is the way He helped change my life without the hlep of people's will. He is above them all and that is all I ever needed to know. God is God and others are not. It works. Although, they might have faith, He is faith and more. It takes a liftetime to ever receive all from Him. A lying devil will tell humans anything to offset them from the pure truth of God and how He works His light toward human beings. I remember this. God saves. It is through Jesus Christ only.

Stand on the facts of God's Word! Never mind how you feel. His love lifts us UP higher than we can attain! Psalm 139 affirms He searches, He knows me, my sitting down, my rising up, my thought afar off, He comprehends my path, my lying down, and He is acquainted with all my ways. There is not a word on my tongue He knows it altogether, He helps me behind and before, has laid His hand upon me, such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high, I can not attain it. I can never escape from Your spirit! I can never get away from Your presence! His faithful Love abides forever!
