Positive Minute - Ken Duncan

Down, but Not Out!

By Sheila Schuller Coleman

"The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down." – Psalm 145:14, NIV

When I was a girl, if I fell skating and skinned by knees my skates sat in the garage unused. I was down and out! When I fell off my bike and skinned my elbows, then the bike sat by the side of the house unused until I had to use it to get somewhere. For a week or two I was down and out!

I had to learn how to fall and to get back up and not be afraid to get hurt again. In life, all of us fall on our face from time to time. We fail to get into the school of our choice. We fail to get the promotion we worked so hard for. We fail to keep important relationships in tact, facing the pain of ruptured relationships.

We may be down. But we do not have to be out! Jesus stands there with his hand outstretched, willing, wanting to lift us up and help us back on our feet. And in the process we have an opportunity to learn the vital lessons that often come from a fall.

Take God's hand today. Let him lift you back up. Life's too short to stay down and out!

Describe one or two important lessons you've learned from falling down in life. Was it worth the fall?

Prayer:
Lord, you give me the courage and faith to get back up and try again after I've fallen or failed. Thank you for reaching out to me with your strong, loving hands in my time of need.

Dearest community and staff, We have recently had a stumble of life because of a medical mistake and improper directives. It has knocked the legs out from under us. We are now in that moment to getting back up and re-gaining life having to begin again with outside help from professionals trained in intervention. It is one more time I can positively state this message was delivered by God's hand guiding and directing us in the most gentle and caring way. That this devotional happened at this specific time in our life cannot be denied as being a distinct message from God to us. To him be the glory for quiet gentle messages delivered when we least expect, but that we be still and listen, read, and know his holy presence is in our midst guiding and directing us through unfathomable depths of darkness, leading us gently and kindly to a new day and new revelations of light in our lives......if we are attentive to knowing and feeling his presence. To God all Glory. Barry

My 2 year old grandson fell down the stairs last week. He has fallen down these stairs before and got a skull fracture. Lord lift this child. Teach him to stay off the stairs. May his life be lifted away from falls!
