Praying with Eyes Totally Shut
By Sheila Schuller Coleman
"And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." – 2 Corinthians 9:8
My husband and my sons love pumpkin cookies! Recently, we were all gathered around the table saying grace for our meal. In the middle of the table was a tray of pumpkin cookies still warm from the oven. The fragrance of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves wafted into the air even as the icing dripped down the sides of the fragrant cookies.
Don't ask me why I happened to open my eyes during our prayer, because I almost never do that, but for whatever reason, I noticed my husband counting cookies during prayer! I knew what he was doing—he was gearing up to ration the cookies, to pounce on "Amen" with a limit of cookies per person. He wanted to make sure he got his fair share of cookies!
What a blessing it is to know that we can pray with our eyes totally shut, knowing that God will provide and answer our prayers with more than enough—cup overflowing. What a blessing to know that as we step into the unknown future we can hold onto God's hand, knowing he will not lead us astray.

How has God proven to you that he is able to bless you with not just enough, but abundantly?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you are the giver of all good things. You not only provide all that we need, but you fill our cup to overflowing. Thank you for loving us so abundantly!
