Positive Minute - Ken Duncan

Captain of our souls

Robert H. Schuller

"…ships….although they are large and driven by strong winds…are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go." - James 3:4

Years ago, Mrs. Schuller and I were faculty members on the Chapman College Campus Afloat. We spent the summer on a ship sailing to the South Seas. I will never forget the time the ship's captain told us we would be going through a very narrow crevice in the Coral Sea. As we were approaching the crevice the next day, all of the passengers on board were on deck. The ship needed thirty feet of water to avoid grounding. There was only one place where the water was deeper than thirty feet, and to maneuver a huge ship through such a narrow crevice was indeed precarious.

As we came closer to the crevice, the captain cut the forward speed. Off in the distance we saw a small motor board coming toward us. As it got closer, we saw a captain from Australia standing in the boat. He boarded our ship through a small hole down below and came up the elevator to the deck where the captain of our ship saluted him, stepped aside, and let the Australian captain, who specialized in taking ships through narrow crevices, take the helm.

In the same way, we needed a special captain to pilot our ship through that narrow Coral Sea passage, so, too, you and I need a captain in our lives who can pilot us through life. That captain's name is Jesus Christ.

My friend, make sure that Jesus Christ is at the helm of your life. He will get you through life's narrow passages and help you reach port safely.

I love the analogy in this minute message; it's worthwhile remembering. This could very well be expounded upon to explain the many, many reasons why GOD sent His son, JESUS CHRIST, down here to be the captain of our lives ... thanks, Rosebud. :)

Very good example of needing a captain in our lives. So many try to go it on their own and struggle. I give it all to God, I can't do it alone.
