Positive Minute - Ken Duncan

Believe in yourself

Robert H. Schuller

"For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth." – Psalm 71:5

The glass elevator in our Tower of Hope was inspired by the El Cortez Hotel in San Diego. The owners of the elegant hotel decided they needed additional elevators, so they hired a group of architects and engineers to figure out the best location, both in terms of appearance and cost. If they put the elevators inside the hotel, they would have to cut a hole in all the floors. What a mess! Plaster dust would be everywhere.

As the planners stood deliberating over where to place the elevators, a janitor overhead the conversation. He thought about the horrible mess the hotel was going to be in while all the reconstruction was going on. And the more he thought about it, the braver he became. Finally he approached the group of men and said, "Why don't you put the elevators outside the building?" Nobody had thought of that! The professionals listened and the idea clicked in their imagination. "Why not?" they said. "It's never been done before, but let's try and see how we could do it." So the elevators were built outside the El Cortez Hotel. Since then, many well-known buildings have done the same thing!

Common people can be brilliant if they only believe in their own ideas! I don't care who you are. I don't care how poor you are. I don't care how educated you are. I don't care what your race it. I don't care where you are on the economic ladder. You have the same basic brain as any other human being! Believe in yourself.

Have you ever abandoned a "brilliant" idea because you lacked self-confidence? Maybe it's time to go back and take a second look!

This meditation is so good!! Thanks for giving it to those who receive your communications. Truly, the Lord is over all and works all things out so that our ideas come to fruition as we wait upon Him. He puts the pieces together - always. Lord bless, Pastor Bob Overstreet

A few years ago my grand daughter and I were talking, and I ask her what is wrong with the schools. She said Nana they have taken God out of the schools. I have been thinking that for years, One woman got the movement started to take prayer out of the schools. I am almost 62 and I want to sell my business and start a campain to put prayer back in the schools. Everyone that I tell about it says. GOOD LUCK. With God's help I don't see why it can't be done. Your devotional today has made me feel good about trying. I can't do it alone. Please pray for me. Connie

A nice. inspiring story. However, these brilliant ideas we get from time to time don't come from ourselves...they are promptings from God through the Holy Spirit. He is to get the credit.

This is a wonderful devotion. My answer to the question is yes, I have abandoned the "brilliant" ideas God has sent me through His Holy Spirit because I have lacked self-confidence to follow through. My prayer is that the Lord will help me find the courage to move ahead. Amen!
