Meet Our Staff

Here are a few of the many people at the Crystal Cathedral who are here to help you find hope, healing, and connection with God and others.

Pastor Jim Kok

Dr. Jim Kok
Director & Pastor of Care Ministries
Care Ministry

Jim Kok has been a Pastor at the Crystal Cathedral since 1984. His focus is Care Ministries. This includes responding to life crises - illnesses, losses, and more - in the lives of church members and attendees.

The Ministering Elders of the church are part of his response team. They communicate the healing presence and love of Christ with church members by staying in touch and reaching out to them in times of heartache and concern.

Seniors are a passion with Dr. Kok, who sees to it that the needs of our older members are met with loving care. In addition to pastoral care during times of need, a monthly program, "50+ Prime Time" luncheon, facilitates communication, contact, and care.

A grandfather of eight, which includes granddaughters adopted from China, enriches the lives of Jim and wife Linda. Their four adult children live in Michigan and California. Linda is a retired kindergarten teacher, now teaching piano at the Crystal Cathedral Academy.

Writing is a significant part of Jim's life. He has authored six books: “Family at Work,” about family relations; “There is No Such Thing as Over the Hill,” about life after 65; “Waiting for Morning: Seeking God in Our Suffering,” on living with the death of a dear one; “90% of Helping is Just Showing Up,” his most popular book on supporting the hurting; “The Miracle of Kindness,” a motivator for every Christian; and “The Pastoral Counseling Treatment Planner.” The Care Ministries’ quarterly publication, “The Care Capsule,” is another publication where Pastor Kok shares his passion for care and kindness.

Claiming to be an average golfer who loves the game, Jim’s younger years included college basketball and tennis. Today, he relishes his beautiful back yard and a front yard succulent garden. Daily walks with Linda and careful eating keep him trim.

In the past, Pastor Kok was a solo pastor of a church for five years, a hospital chaplain for fifteen, and an educator of clergy and seminarians since 1969. In 1996, Jim and a group of Crystal Cathedral volunteers launched the unique ministry, "The Care and Kindness Conference."

Maureen A. Winer

Maureen A. Winer
Facilitator
Membership, Fellowship, Baptism

Originally from New Jersey, the Garden State, Maureen has lived in California, the Golden State, since 1978, when she joined the Garden Grove Community Church (now the Crystal Cathedral). At that time, her children were baptized, and she and her family established many wonderful relationships here. Later God used those same people to help Maureen rebuild her life after divorce through the Divorce & Grief Recovery program and Singles Ministry where she eventually led small groups and made lifelong friends.

Hired by the church in 1981, Maureen worked in the business office and has since been responsible for the church's liability insurance, master calendar, Singles Ministry (as its assistant), and various pastor and administrator correspondence. She has held her current, and evolving, administrative position for 16 years.

Maureen met her husband Burt at a Single's Ministry dance and they're still dancing today! With five adult children, five granddaughters, and one grandson, Maureen considers herself "truly blessed!"

Gudelia Ramirez

Gudelia Ramirez
Pastor of Community Missions
Community Missions Ministry

As the Pastor of Community Missions, Pastor Ramirez has a passion to represent the Crystal Cathedral by bringing the message of hope to our neighbors, fostering respect and dignity regardless of ethnicity. With the help of volunteers, Gudelia endeavors to build relationships with those in area schools, homeless shelters, halfway houses, Habitat for Humanity projects, and other associations and community organizations in an attempt to bridge the gap between the church and culture. By building relationships, the Community Missions team is able to identify the needs of our neighbors so that we can help address those needs.

Born in Mexico, Gudelia immigrated to the U.S. in 1987, and has since become a U.S. citizen. Her experience includes elementary school teaching, curriculum development, and teacher training. She has received a Masters Degree in Pedagogy (Education) and served as a learning disabilities specialist and professor of educative investigation.

To further her commitment to reaching our community with the good news of Jesus Christ, Gudelia completed the Commissioned Pastor coursework, and volunteered with the Huntington Beach Police Department and Fountain Valley School District.

Because she's struggled to become fluent in the English language for many years, it has given Gudelia a heart for others who struggle. This has motivated her to become a Laubach English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor and tutor trainer as part of the Orange County Literacy Committee. She believes that when students move to a new culture with new values and practices, it becomes overwhelming. She motivates our ESL volunteers to embrace immigrants with the love of God, strive to help restore their dignity, equip them to find the best employment possible, and help them to build a healthy community as part of their new adventure.
